Her words cut like a knife
Under my skin
And into my heart
Most pleasurable pain
I felt alive again,
Or dead I’d say, in some old way.

She brought the sun and flowers
From the old photo album,
Kept secret under her warm bed
Smiles and frowns, one against each other
All sitting still and quietly, waiting to be sought

She leaned but not touched
And sighed with no sound
Her breath of lilies made the room familiar
No haunting dreams, no stabbing past,
Just us.

Meanwhile,
In oblivion the path of ancient loves,
Frozen in time, doors open, no key to lock,
A million eyes, a million faces stumbling, wandering
Awaiting
To be next.

Will I ever get out of this… this place?

Let me tell you about those lying dead along the olden path
The little ones, the frightened ones, black and white;
Shadows in the night of nights,
Not long for pleasure, not long for pain
